Sinfonia Nordestina

I also looked at artists in order to get a more abstract representation of my ideas. I looked at the artist Beatriz Milhazes and chose this piece as it reminded me of the work I had previously done. Beatriz Milhazes is a Brazilian artist who creates exuberantly coloured, rhythmically constructed abstract paintings, collages, prints and architectural installations that are well-known worldwide. The piece I chose is an acrylic on canvas painting and the bright and colourful circles remind me of the over laying and clusters of sahpes that I have been exploring in my work. I think it is a good representation of the shape of my work and the kind of repeated pattern I am working towards creating. The use of repeated circles will help me gain ideas for my work, I like the use of the circles and I think they create an interesting shape when combined together. The bright and bold colours remind me of the colours I have been using and create and carefree and fun atmosphere. As well as this there is a section covered with rectangles in different colours. I thought that this area added depth to the picture as it adds some harsher lines to the piece. Some ares have clusters of leaves in them with relate back to the natural theme running through my work and also use very similar colour to those I have.
We then created a still life at school and photographed areas of it that dirctly linked to our project as points of inspiration. Here are some of the photos I took:

I then drew the structure of a dress with a bustle that was a lot like the one from the V and A. I drew it in pencil as I felt that this was the best way to show the structure and shading on the dress.
The first image I’ve drawn is a biro drawing of a box of string. I drew string because at the time I was thinking about the structure of the bustle and how it was made I was also thinking about the pattern that the string can make as they intertwine with one another. I used biro to create this picture as I thought that the quality of the biro would best represent the texture of the string.

I then began focussing on the bustle of the dress and its structure. As well as spending time looking a natural form and the way in which things are made.
Over the summer holidays I visited the V and A and spent some time researching a dress I found by Charles Frederick Worth. I made a gallery sheet containing my thoughts and opinions on the dress which I have used as a starting point for my project.
I took inspiration from the images I took of it and began photographing things that reminded me of it and drew them.
